The ongoing mystery of River Song was a topic that dominated the show's proceedings throughout 2011 and her eventual identity reveal at the end of the mid-Series 6 finale, A Good Man Goes to War, only served to open up a whole new can of timey-wimey worms. Thankfully viewers were then given two months to recover from the Earth-shattering bombshell but, as it turns out, they could've done with a lot longer. So River Song was Amy and Rory's daughter and everything was awesome... apparently. After being kidnapped by Kovarian on Demons Run, she spent her formative years confined to a creepy American orphanage (though not necessarily in that narrative order) before eventually escaping, regenerating and setting her sights on Leadworth where she became the best friend of her unsuspecting parents. Or something like that, anyway. It's all well and good saying that Amy and Rory actually did 'sort of' raise their child after all (something that a lot of viewers had been concerned about) and fans can just about accept that they ended up naming her after herself, too. But how the hell did Melody even get to Leadworth in the first place? She had been dying of an undisclosed illness on the streets of New York when she regenerated into her new hipster alter ego 'Mels' and then seemingly spouted her own set of wings which she used to fly across the Atlantic to grow up alongside her mum and dad in a small village in Gloucestershire. Speaking of which, how did she even know who and where Amy and Rory even were? She had a picture of Amy in her room at the orphanage but that's not exactly helpful. Unless, of course, she somehow had their postal address and Steven Moffat forgot to mention it. This isn't the only unanswered question about the life and times of River Song but it's certainly one of the most annoying ones.
