12. Around 600 Skulls Were Created For The Crypt Scenes
Early in the episode, Gantok (played by Mark Gatiss under heavy prosthetics) takes the Doctor to a spooky, ancient crypt, where they find the head of Dorium Maldovar.

There are tons of skulls lining the walls in this scene - as well as some scattered across the floor - but the actual figure may surprise you. According to Webb, the crew had a whopping 600 of them to work with, and most of them were made out of foam.
However, because the script required some of these skulls to rotate, around 30 special skulls were constructed out of more "heavy-duty" material.
These skulls were rotated by members of the crew holding rods, which, as Webb puts it, essentially allowed them to "puppeteer" each skull individually.
