After helming Doctor Who's momentous 50th anniversary year, Matt Smith faced his final curtain call on Christmas Day 2013 and, rather befittingly, even Amy Pond came along to bid her beloved raggedy man goodnight. Yes, she was just an hallucination triggered by his imminent regeneration, but she was still there, OK?! Karen Gillan's surprise cameo made the whole affair even more emotionally torturous for the millions of viewers who were at this point sat staring at the screen as they blinked through their tears. The perfect ending to the Eleventh Doctor's era.
