Doctor Who: 5 Reasons The Twelfth Doctor's Screwdriver Should Regenerate

By Anna Rinaldi /

1. It's Not Purple!

They have been white, red, blue and even green, but never has the Doctor's sonic screwdriver been purple. It's an astonishing scandal, to say the least. This obsession with a purple sonic screwdriver can be loosely equated to Samuel Jackson's request for a purple lightsaber to accompany his character, Master Windu, in the (dare we mention them?) Star Wars prequels. Purple, being non-primary, is an unconventional colour to choose for light filaments. The rebellious, unique and more enigmatic aura it radiates is a perfect match for the Twelfth Doctor. Perhaps purple is simply being reserved for the imminent female Doctor (it will happen!) due to its effeminate connotation, but purple could still be easily applied to Twelve, for the reasons enumerated in the previous paragraph, obviously! Another possible theme for this hypothetical screwdriver is Gallifrey. It's surprising that the use of Gallifreyan symbols has never been actualised. Emblazoning these on the Twelfth Doctor's screwdriver would integrate the ongoing search for his lost home planet. What did you think of this lis? Are you in agreement that the Twelfth Doctor should receive a new sonic screwdriver? If so, do you have any preferences for its design? Leave your inventive ideas in the comment section below!
