Doctor Who: 5 Worst And 5 Best Cybermen Stories

By Chris Swanson /

1. €œEarthshock€

Well, here€™s, dare I say, a shock. Yes, the Fifth Doctor€™s only real encounter with the Cybermen, and one that ended with a surprise that still resonates today and granted immortality to Adrica, an otherwise mediocre companion. This really is just about one of the most perfect stories from either series. The Cybermen are a real threat, and the Doctor€™s desperation to stop them, and save his friends, is really highlighted. As for the final scenes€”young Adric clutching his last memento of home while watching his death approach€”they remain every bit as powerful now as they were back in the day. Overall the Cybermen are, as all villains, only as good as the writing. As we€™ve seen here, it€™s possible to use them well, and possible to fail horribly. Let€™s see what €œNightmare in Silver€ has in store. (honorable mention: "The Invasion", "The Reaping" and "The Harvest")
