Doctor Who: 6 Biggest Dalek Triumphs Of The New Series

2. The Reveal (Bad Wolf)

The second moment from the Series 1 two-part finale is actually from the end of the first episode, Bad Wolf. It may be as much to do with the Ninth Doctor as with the Daleks, but considering they're arch-enemies and all, that doesn't stop it being a triumph of using the Daleks.

With viewers having been introduced to the destruction Daleks can cause earlier in the series, their appearance in the finale raised the odds. Only this time there was a whole fleet of them, ready to descend and attack earth and with Rose Tyler in their custody. It's a moment that makes viewers go, "Oh ****, now we're in trouble".

They were a fitting enemy for the first finale of the new series, given that they are the Doctor's archenemy and that they have a specific resonance for the Ninth, given his survivor's guilt over the Time War.

Furthermore, Eccleston's performance fully captures the epicness of the moment. His terror upon seeing the Daleks is completely believable, but it's the speech that makes the moment truly great. The Ninth Doctor becomes defiant and threatening, frightening the Daleks as only he can, creating a wonderful cliffhanger to set up the next episode.

Despite Eccleston being key, Daleks are important here, so it's another Dalek triumph.
