Doctor Who: 8 Greatest Things Russell T Davies Contributed To The Whoniverse
3. The Tenth Doctor
After learning that Eccleston planned to depart after just one series, Davies was forced to begin a search for the Tenth Doctor. He soon found his man: David Tennant, whom Davies had previously worked with on the BBC miniseries Casanova. Tennant, a life-long Whovian, threw himself into the role with gusto.
A little quirkier than The Ninth Doctor, but still able to tap into the character's dark side when needed, Tennant's Tenth Doctor quickly built a fan base and remains a favourite to this day, rating quite highly in popularity polls, often only running second to Fourth Doctor Tom Baker. In fact, Tennant's Doctor was so loved that the BBC briefly considered ending Doctor Who when the actor announced his departure.
Thankfully for Whovians, this was not the case. David Tennant reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor in Day of the Doctor, and fans are already hoping he can be convinced to to return again for the 60th Anniversary Special.
