Good lord, another January with five Saturdays? This one includes the triumphant return of the Daleks to the series that made them popular (or vice versa) and for that reason alone its worth celebrating. Unfortunately, its a bit of a stretch to find many more reasons to do so, given how little the Daleks are actually in it and how downright odd they are compared to their other appearances, especially their voices. Its not for nothing that Dalek voice expert Nicholas Briggs revoiced them for the DVD special edition, a version which also figured out a way to make it less obvious that there were only three of them (and one of those was a gold one). Granted, this is the sort of thing that happens when bad guys such as the Daleks have to be shoehorned into a script they werent originally a part of when another script featured them falls through. Its a credit to this story that they dont feel like theyre not meant to be there. It raises one hell of a fuss trying to fit this story into established Dalek continuity, mind you, but its still better than having a story that focuses solely on the Ogrons, isnt it? Remember the bit at the start of this list about having to stretch for the good occasionally? And speaking of stretching for the good
