Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways go from a satirical take on reality TV to a human vs alien survival story within its 90 minutes run time effortlessly. Only in a Doctor Who finale could you begin with a comedic reimagining of Anne Robinson as a robot (The Anne Droid) and end with an emotional farewell from the lead actor.

Eccleston's farewell itself was the perfect introduction for many who were unfamiliar with the concept of a regeneration as the music swelled and he said to Rose through a grin: "you were fantastic. And you know what? So was I!"

With an emotional finale and great action set pieces this isn't only one of the best Dalek episodes ever, it is one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever.
