Doctor Who: Every Dalek Story In The New Series Ranked WORST To BEST
2. Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways (2005)
The satires of The Weakest Link and Big Brother may be slightly dated nowadays but the first series finale of New Who set the standard for each one after it.
Memorable guest characters, a terrifying and seemingly invincible enemy, and a conclusion that challenges the Doctor’s core beliefs.
Last seen a few episodes ago in The Long Game, the Doctor and Rose return to Satellite Five two hundred years later to find it transformed into the Game Station. Anyone from Earth can be beamed onboard against their will to take part in game shows that have deadly outcomes for the losers.
Even more horrifying is the revelation that the humans who die are not killed immediately. The Daleks are converting them into more Daleks and are planning to invade the Earth with their new empire.
These two episodes act as the perfect end point for the Ninth Doctor’s character arc. By refusing to commit genocide against the Daleks yet again and saving Rose Tyler from certain death, he finally learns to forgive himself for the horrors of the Time War.
As the man himself says in his final words, “You were fantastic! And do you know what? So was I.”
