Doctor Who: Every Doctor Ranked From Worst To Best

18. The Metacrisis Doctor/DoctorDonna (David Tennant/Catherine Tate)

Journey's End saw both the end of the fourth series of the revival, and the end of Donna Noble's travels with the Doctor. Thanks to the Doctor's handy spare hand, the audience is granted a duplicate of David Tennant, along with an entirely new Doctor - the DoctorDonna.

This appearance had been teased throughout the series, and left jaws on the floor when the change took place. However, Russell T Davies apparently decided that not enough hearts had been broken, so we soon learned why there had never been a human/Time Lord metacrisis before - there couldn't be.

The issue with this pair of incarnations is that it feels more like an attempt to give Rose Tyler a happy ending, while ensuring that Donna gets a tragic ending. Added to this, the Metacrisis Doctor knowingly commits genocide against the Daleks, making it hard to truly root for him. These two also aren't that different from their original characters of Ten and Donna.

While seeing two Tennants on Bad Wolf Bay is certainly memorable, these incarnations actually leave the audience a little sad, placing them at the bottom of this list. The banter between them was great though!
