27. The Runaway Bride

RTD’s second Christmas special starts with a wedding on Christmas Eve.

The bride is inadvertently teleported to the TARDIS because she’s been poisoned with particles stolen from Torchwood in order to awaken a load of giant spiders hibernating at the centre of the Earth.

Yeah, the plot of The Runaway Bride is a tad contrived.

It’s got plenty of heart and nice character moments though, like the Doctor opening up about Rose and Donna telling him to find someone at the end. And Catherine Tate is absolutely hilarious in her first of many appearances. Sarah Parish is deliciously sinister as the Racnoss too!

It's just a perfectly adequate Christmas special, with the chemistry between Tennant and Tate elevating it to a decent level.
