18. The Runaway Bride

None of the Tenth Doctor's Christmas episodes are particularly outstanding but The Runaway Bride is the best of the bunch.

That's mostly down to the brilliant Tennant/Tate double act, a pairing that proved so successful that they're still together in 2023. From the opening "What?" to their final conversation in the snow, there's just something special between these two that hasn't been replicated in NuWho before or since.

We also get one of the most memorable Tenth Doctor villains in the Empress of the Racnoss, which is brought to life via some remarkable practical effects. And that bit where Lance is fed to her children. Very satisfying! He deserved it.
