Doctor Who: Legend Of The Sea Devils Review - 6 Ups & 7 Downs

2. DOWN - A Chibnall Resolution

We’re going to keep this section brief, because it’s a DOWN we’ve penned a thousand times before. Legend Of The Sea Devils plows into its resolution at full speed, has The Doctor do a science thing to save the day, and hopes you won’t notice. We aren’t afraid to admit, we’re not sure what The Doctor even did to resolve the central conflict of the episode this time. That’s how bland these climaxes have become.

Once again, the Doctor attempts to sacrifice herself in a big hero moment, and once again, a supporting cast member appears from nowhere and decides ‘yeah, I’ll die for you, relative stranger’. Thirteen is trying so hard to have her big sacrifice scene and no one is going to let her, not Barristan Selmy, and not this pirate guy. To be fair though, she doesn’t really put up much of a fight here, and leaves Ji-Hun to die for her pretty sharpish.

Thirteen drowning would ruin date night a bit, though, so we’ll give her a pass.
