4. The Doctor Isn't Just Ruthless - He's A Kleptomaniac
It isn't the same as letting poor Russell think he had a chance of surviving just to track his remains to a place of safety, but it is a side to the Doctor that is less like the heroic figure we've watched in recent years. Not only does he seem to genuinely delight in scaring the poor man who runs the children's home, he steals his mug of coffee when he isn't looking. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't the worse thing he's done. He certainly showed little compassion in helping a frightened Rupert Pink after the 'creature' appeared under his bed clothes. But this is not what we've come to expect from a hero like the Doctor. At least not the recent versions. Last week the Doctor and Robin Hood both asked if they were really heroes at all. Perhaps the truth is that the Doctor's heroism is a little murkier these days.
