Doctor Who Series 2 Cast: Where Are They Now?

Lady Cassandra – the “last human” who was little more than a piece of skin stretched over a metal frame – seemingly met her end in the Series 1 episode The End of the World. Russell T Davies clearly liked her though, as she was resurrected to play the main villain in the Series 2 opener New Earth.

Perhaps this was because he enjoyed working with Zoë Wanamaker, who returned to voice the character (and also played her briefly in her human form).

On TV, Wanamaker is most famous as matriarch Susan Harper in the beloved sitcom My Family, which ran for over 100 episodes between 2000 and 2011. In the movies, she played Hogwarts flying instructor Madame Hooch in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, almost getting flattened by a rogue Neville Longbottom on a broomstick.

Since Cassandra finally got put to rest, Wanamaker has taken a regular part in period drama Mr. Selfridge, and was most recently seen in the popular Netflix show Shadow and Bone (below). You might have also seen her in the 2011 movie My Week with Marilyn, opposite the Oscar-nominated Michelle Williams.

Hopefully she didn’t need moisturising for any of those jobs.
