Doctor Who Series 7: 10 Reasons Why You Must Watch

9. Cowboys and Aliens

Or rather, Cyborg Cowboy Aliens. If I can go off on a tangent for a moment, one of my favourite episodes of Red Dwarf was Gunmen of the Apocalypse. That quirky take on a Western has been a fan favourite since the moment it screened, and I get the feeling that Series 7€™s €˜A Town Called Mercy€™ could be something similar. This is an area that Doctor Who hasn€™t ventured into since the 1966 serial €˜The Gunfighters€™, probably due to the last part of that story having the lowest ever audience appreciation score. We briefly got a feel for the Doctor being in the Wild West last series with his turning up in a Stetson and that seemed to work fairly well. There€™s also no doubting that this episode is part of Steven Moffat€™s plan to keep aggressively growing the fan base in the United States too by directly appealing to one of their most iconic genres. And let€™s not forget that Amy Pond nearly blowing everyone€™s feet off in the trailer was a brilliant teaser for the episode.
