Or rather, Cyborg Cowboy Aliens. If I can go off on a tangent for a moment, one of my favourite episodes of Red Dwarf was Gunmen of the Apocalypse. That quirky take on a Western has been a fan favourite since the moment it screened, and I get the feeling that Series 7s A Town Called Mercy could be something similar. This is an area that Doctor Who hasnt ventured into since the 1966 serial The Gunfighters, probably due to the last part of that story having the lowest ever audience appreciation score. We briefly got a feel for the Doctor being in the Wild West last series with his turning up in a Stetson and that seemed to work fairly well. Theres also no doubting that this episode is part of Steven Moffats plan to keep aggressively growing the fan base in the United States too by directly appealing to one of their most iconic genres. And lets not forget that Amy Pond nearly blowing everyones feet off in the trailer was a brilliant teaser for the episode.
