A Song Of Ice And Fire, the seven-volume series written by George R.R. Martin, has become the definitive fantasy fiction work of our time since the release of its first book, A Game of Thrones, in 1996. Critically lauded across the world, the series has become more prominent in popular culture since the release of a television adaptation, also titled Game Of Thrones, which has rapidly become one of the most popular programmes on the screen since its inception in 2011. One of the things that makes the series stand out amongst other works of the fantasy genre is that it lacks traditional one-dimensional heroes and villains. There are exceptions, but few characters can easily be described as good or evil, and grey morality is rampant. The Others, the little seen beings that dwell in the far north, may eventually become the main villains of the series (the ice in the Song of Ice And Fire) in the last two books, but for now, here are five individuals who are the source of much fan hatred for their predominantly malevolent actions, and deservedly so. Oh and by the way, this article contains extensive book spoilers. Consider yourself warned.
