As with all of these guys, there's a risk in him just being a part of this group. There's also the fact that, after missing three-and-a-half seasons, he might not necessarily be essential to the story at this stage, and instead his death is a way of tying up a loose end and providing a major upset. Also, the Hound appears to have his hammer in the trailer, which is a worrying sign.

The Case Against

Would the show really bring him back after so long just to kill him off an episode later? Maybe, but it would then all seem a bit pointless. The Hound having his hammer (or at least what looks like his hammer) is an odd spoiler to put in a trailer if he is dead, so there's a chance HBO are being deliberately misleading there. There's something fitting about having the son of Robert Baratheon involved in the endgame, whatever shape it takes, and with so much of history repeating itself, he could be like the Orys Baratheon to Daenerys and Jon's Targaryens (in a fairly vague sense, anyway). If nothing else, it'd be frustrating to have him return and not reunite with Arya at all, so he should at least live long enough for that.
