4. Daenerys Targaryen
Despite having spent the majority of the show on a completely different continent to the rest of the plot lines, Daenerys has always been thought of as a main character. Season 7 kicked this into overdrive, and presumably Season 8 will follow suit, but that could end up being bad news for the Mother Of Dragons.
Daenerys claims herself to be the rightful queen, and realistically she would be a better ruler than Robert, Joffrey, Tommen, or Cersei, but her claim is flimsy at best. Her father tried to burn down the kingdom and lost a war; she has no real right to the Iron Throne. Westeros, like medieval British history, is full of examples of the throne changing hands on the battlefield. Robert’s Rebellion is no different.
For a moment though, we can put that aside, because by her own logic, Jon has a better claim to the throne than she does. How this changes her (if it changes her at all) remains to be seen, but either way, she’s made some powerful enemies and Season 8 will not be safe ground for her.
She’s overly headstrong on her dragon, often acts with bouts of impulsive extremism, and George R.R. Martin has said the ending is bittersweet. Daenerys’ death might just be the bitter in that mix.
