The Red Wedding may have been the big event we were looking forward to seeing translated from Storm Of Swords to our TV screens, but the journey of Brienne and Jaime was not far behind. It began at the end of season two when Catelyn released Jaime in exchange for her daughters and proved to be the strongest relationship in season three, even if they couldn't stand each other for most of it. It's another one of those pairings like Jon and Ygritte where two complete opposites come together resulting in a change in both characters. Jaime started off his usual cocksure, arrogant self; Brienne the stoic, isolated warrior who struggled to find her place in this world, and it was her sense of honour that gradually broke through all the sarcasm and struggle for power over each other. By the end of their journey to King's Landing, he was on the path to becoming the noble head of the King's Guard a million miles away from the man who pushed Bran out of the tower window in the very first episode. Of course some pretty big moments helped: Jaime losing his hand and with it his power as a skilled swordsman. Brienne being imprisoned and forced to fight the bear in Harrenhal and Jaime's daring rescue. That scene in the baths where he opened up shared his frustration over the persona everyone had him be. Giving Brienne his Valyrian steel sword and sending her on a quest to save Sansa in season four showed just how far they had both come and we can only hope that they find each other once again.
