Gotham Season 5: 3 Ups & 1 Down From 'The Trial Of Jim Gordon'
A well-penned, well-directed instalment that provides for some hope among the darkness.

There's not much time left before we must bid farewell to Gotham once and for all. The hit Fox series has been hurtling towards its conclusion for quite some time now, and the final season has been incredibly impressive thus far, delivering superb episodes week after week
The Trial of Jim Gordon very much continues this trend. The end of Jeremiah Valeska's storyline hasn't hindered the Batman prequel series in the slightest, as this week's instalment delivers in pretty much every department - save for one caveat.
As the title indicates, much of the episode centres around a trial of sorts - but it's not any old trial. The shocking opening segment finds Gordon the victim of a gunshot, which leads to the GCPD captain fighting for his life - which is dramatised as a courtroom trial, which is taking place in his subconscious.
Elsewhere, Ivy Pepper and Victor Zsasz fill in as this week's antagonists, and remind us why they're both great characters in the process. It's not all doom and gloom, however, as there is plenty of optimism in this one, including Bruce and Selina's strengthening bond.
The Trial Of Jim Gordon isn't perfect, but a wonderful script from Ben McKenzie and great direction from Erin Richards ensure that it's another incredibly entertaining thrill-ride.
