5. There Will Be A Major Victim Of "Ruthless Pragmatism"
The Season 3 trailer showed us many things, but nothing quite stood out like the closing quote of "we're murderers Francis". Whilst it's been speculated that Claire was simply referring to Zoe or Russo, who've become casualties on Frank's rise to power, Claire finds her hands are largely clean when it comes to the fates of those two. Distressing over them both being guilty hints at something new. Frank of course doesn't look at these things as murder, replying in the trailer that the two are simply "survivors". He's also thrown around the term "ruthless pragmatism" in the past - it was pragmatic to sleep with Zoe Barnes while she was a reporter, and ruthless to thrown her under a train later. If there is to be another victim of the Underwood's it's not likely to be a crime of passion or an act of malice, merely the removal of somebody who, although previously useful, has now made themselves a problem. With Frank now the President of the United States of America, anybody looking to make waves over his past will need to be dealt with as quickly and as surgically as possible, and the candidates for this grizzly fate are huge. There's a reporter looking to clear his name, a hacker trying to buy his freedom, and a former escort who wants her life back, all of them will need to be dealt with eventually in Season 3.
