How Every Season Of American Horror Story Is Connected

6. Cult Is Connected To Asylum

Whether you loved it or hated it, there's no denying that Cult's tone was incredibly unique in comparison to previous seasons of American Horror Story. As a result, it made it rather difficult for viewers to guess what other season of the show Cult was connected to.

Our confusion ended during the final episode of the series, when Ally's new girlfriend suggested that she appear on Rachael Maddow's talk show. Beverly disagreed, telling the young woman that if Ally didn't speak to Lana Winters, then she'd hardly talk to Maddow.

Of course, Lana Winters is one of American Horror Story's most recognisable characters, and initially appeared in the show's second season, Asylum. The tough reporter endured pain and torture in the Briarcliff institute for the criminally insane before becoming a hugely successful journalist. This reference in Cult confirms that the politically charged season is, in fact, linked to Asylum.
