15. The Most Awkward Dinner In Superhero History
The third episode of the season has already proven divisive among early viewers because it's very clearly a "bottle episode", that's an episode of a TV show typically confined to a few cheap, easy locations with little action. This is generally in order to offset the cost of more expensive, action-packed episodes.
Episode three, "This Deadly Secret", is bizarrely centred around an attempt by Danny and Ward (Tom Pelphrey) to bury the hatchet with Joy and Davos, as they all plan to meet for dinner and hash things out.
What follows is a supremely awkward, drawn-out series of scenes in which Joy makes up an hilariously unconvincing story about how she and Davos first met and then takes some not-so-subtle jabs at Colleen (Jessica Henwick). Colleen eventually gets fed up with the civilities and things get heated, all while Ward doesn't even bother to turn up.
While the famous dinner scene in The Defenders was surprisingly charming and entertaining, this was one of the season's more eccentric gambles that just didn't pay off at all.
