While Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole have recently departed Doctor Who, the show could be set for a monumental shake-up as Jodie Whittaker is said to have quit as the iconic Time Lord.

According to the Daily Mirror, Whittaker has sensationally opted to call time on her tenure as the Doctor. A source told the outlet that “it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration”.

Of course, anything emanating from the Daily Mirror should likely be taken with a pinch of salt, although the BBC has moved to comment (without particularly commenting) on this speculation.

An official statement from the Beeb simply read: “We won’t be commenting on any speculation around Jodie’s future on the show.”

As the Thirteenth Doctor, Whittaker made her Doctor Who bow in the final moments of 2017’s ‘Twice Upon a Time’ Christmas special, being regenerated from Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor. From there, this iteration of the Doctor fully took centre-stage as Series 11 began in October 2018.

Whittaker has previously talked about how much she adores the Doctor Who gig, but she likewise told Entertainment Weekly last year how “at some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet”.

Series 13 of Doctor Who will air later this year, although it seems as if this new batch of Doctor Who delight will only consist of eight episodes. That being due to how the global pandemic hit the production and filming schedule of the show.

Once Series 13 is done and dusted, though, it appears that Jodie Whittaker’s time as the Doctor could well be coming to a close.
