Marvel's The Defenders: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To First Four Episodes

1. The Show Works Best When The Heroes Are Together

Making up for that lack of plot, though, are the character moments. There are four very individual heroes; they're not used to being part of a team, but forced into it here.

It's in this dynamic where the show really excels (and which makes it more frustrating that it takes so long to get there). Seeing the characters we've been following over the last two years finally collide makes for the most joyful experience in the show, whether it's a reunion between Jessica and Luke, a nod towards Heroes for Hire, or the P.I. being saved by a blind lawyer.

Put at least two of these four together and you're likely to get a scene that's fun, witty, and interesting to watch; throw all of them in the mix and sparks really begin to fly. Never mind fighting the Hand, the strength of this show is in its heroes trading blows with each other.
