16. The Wolf And The Lion (Season 1, Episode 5)

We rarely got to see Jaime Lannister fight at his very best in this series. The Kingslayer spent all of Season 2 in chains, fought Brienne while tied up early in Season 3, and then lost his hand an episode later. €œThe Wolf and the Lion€ is really the only episode where we see an uninhibited Jaime go to work with his sword, in a duel with Ned Stark that ends prematurely when one of the guards spears Ned in the leg. Before this duel, there's a great scene where Ned refuses to take part in the assassination attempt on Daenarys, prompting King Robert to scream after him that he€™ll have Ned€™s head on a pike (how prophetic that it would be his €œson€ that would fulfil that threat). This episode also features a jousting match between Loras Tyrell and the Mountain, which the Mountain loses, and then subsequently decapitates his horse before getting into a fight with the Hound.
