Just a few weeks after it was announced that Arrowverse architect Greg Berlanti would bring a Batwoman TV series to TheCW later this year, Variety are now reporting that the network has just found the actor to play the titular character.

Along with Deadline, the outlet claim that none other than Ruby Rose - who has most recently starred in sequels to John Wick, Pitch Perfect and xXx, as well as Warner Bros.' upcoming The Meg - will star as Kate Kane in the TV series.

The character, introduced in 2006 by writers Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid and Keith Giffen, will first appear in this year's upcoming Arrowverse crossover and, should the series receive a full order (which is likely), will make repeat appearances during the 2019-2020 season as well.

News of Rose's casting will no doubt excite fans of the character, with Kate Kane having starred in some of the best Batman comics of the last decade. Rose's casting and the introduction of Batwoman to a live action setting are both major wins for representation as well, with both the character and the actor themselves being LGBT*.

No other castings have been confirmed, but with Rose attached and Caroline Dries serving as writer, expect more announcements to come shortly.
