Star Trek Characters That Must Return (2026)

3. Trelane/Q

Rhys Darby's Trelane was a highlight of the third season of Strange New Worlds, bringing a bouncey energy and mischievous wickedness to the show after the heavy season opener. As the unnamed wedding planner, he may have made things a little awkward for Dr. Korby, but for a few moments there, Spock's dreams were coming true.

Things are set to rights in the end, thanks to the timely arrival of a certain absentee father figure. John de Lancie's voice rained down through Starbase One, chastising his son, whisking him away from his playthings (or the crew, as they're also known).

If Trelane is indeed Q Junior, then there are aeons of adventures to enjoy. By the time that Keegan de Lancie's Q makes amends to Aunty Kathy in Q2, he and his father have spent decades chasing, avoiding, and annoying each other. The nature of the Q means that these adventures can take place anywhere at all, in any universe, in any timeline. They could say hi to Caleb Mir, play pranks on Malcolm Reed, and even help Jaylah study for her entrance exams.

They bring the comedy to Trek in a way few other characters can. Sure, Lower Decks brought slapstick, but where is the rule that these demigods can't have a bit of fun as well?

There's also Q Senior's final tease to Jack Crusher to consider as well...
