Star Trek: Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked From WORST To BEST

42. Two-Piece Jumpsuits - Late 2360s - Early 2370s

The new two-piece jumpsuit, designed by Robert Blackman, was created to set Deep Space Nine apart from The Next Generation, as both shows ran concurrently for almost two years. The looser fit, rolled-up sleeves, and light undershirt were meant to show that life aboard a starbase moved at a different pace to that aboard a starship.

This new uniform was seen alongside the standard 2360s uniform in Star Trek: Generations, which was a last-minute decision by the filmmakers, having abandoned a previous uniform design. This led to several of the actors borrowing uniforms tailored to Deep Space Nine, and even Voyager cast members.

These jumpsuits, similar to the Starfleet Academy uniforms, were seen aboard DS9, the Defiant, the Enterprise-D, Voyager, and the Equinox. They featured a lighter undershirt, similar to the one seen on Ro Laren several years prior, thus leading to the infamous 'tank-top Janeway' scenes in Macrocosm.

B'Elanna Torres wore an open Engineer jacket over hers while Roxanne Dawson was pregnant, though several other variations appeared through Voyager's run - including a specific maternity version, also worn by Torres and Ensign Samantha Wildman.

This uniform had a relatively short lifespan, retiring from general use by 2373.
