32. Starfleet Away Gear - Mid 2270s

Another design by Robert Fletcher for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the 'field jacket' worn by the away team was designed to be more functional for the wearer. This was inspired by the belts seen in The Original Series, which, for Fletcher at least, were impractical.

He designed the jackets to allow the wearer to leave their hands free for work:

- a much more efficient practice than carrying around their tools in their hands like in the old series.

Though these jackets were only seen in one film, they bore a resemblance to the away jackets seen in the mid-2250s, worn by Pike, Spock, and the away mission to Talos IV.
