Star Trek: Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked From WORST To BEST

21. Dress Uniform - Early 2400s

The dress uniform in service, by 2401 at least, quickly became the standard for ranking officers. Commodore Geordi La Forge wore his Operations division dress uniform on arrival on the Titan-A, though the quick communication the ship shared with him before his arrival showed him in the same uniform.

It was designed by costume designer Michael Crow, who wanted to update Starfleet's formal dress to match contemporary navy. The white dress uniform introduced in Star Trek: Insurrection was, in his opinion, closer to real-world Navy dinner jackets.

This version was similar to the standard duty uniform, though single-breasted, with a zip running along the middle. The collar was tapered and bore the division colours, while the rank insignia were moved downwards, rising vertically, rather than arranged horizontally. Flag officers wore their insignia on both sides of the collar

Fleet Admiral Shelby wore a variation of this uniform during the Enterprise-F's final flight, with an added gold piping along the collar. She wore the Admiral's variant combadge as well.
