12. The Replicator

Were it not for the Holodeck, the Replicator would surely be everyone's favourite piece of speculative Star Trek technology, given its ability to synthesise food and, later, larger objects with the few presses of a button.

And so, fans were surely left grinning from ear to ear when the device made a brief "cameo" in Picard, when Dahj's boyfriend complains about her replicator menu offering little beyond vanilla.

And just like that, everyone was once again miserable that replicators don't actually exist. Can the future just get here already?
