Carol and Yumiko take up some huge and unexpected gambles.

By Martyn Warren /

After Eugene's noble and standout moment from last week's dramatic episode saw him take the fall for Max's actions, he became the unexpected hero that everyone cheered for. But in this week's episode, What's Been Lost, Pamela decides to use his sacrifice as a pawn to manipulate his innocent friends.

Continuing to focus on different key characters for each episode, Carol and Yumiko get some time to shine, with the latter in particular getting some much-needed and deserved screen time. Dealing with Pamela's wrath, their gambles and plans lead to some fun and unexpected consequences that will certainly keep people on the edge of their seats.

Breaking Lance out of jail, Carol is forced to trust him in some of the season's most tense moments. However, its story isn't always concrete as scriptwriter Erik Mountain made a couple of peculiar choices surrounding the former deputy governor of the Commonwealth that only hindered the antagonist's overall last great episode.

As much as Carol has her fans, Yumiko became one of the greatest heroes to emerge in this third part of the eleventh season as she consoles her closest remaining allies in this week's most touching moments. Her arc reaches a satisfying conclusion that will keep everyone on their toes as she challenges Pamela in the most unexpected and entertaining way imaginable.

8. Down - Lance's Last Speech

Since his introduction earlier in the eleventh season, Lance has managed to talk a big game to get what he wanted. Whether that was manipulating Eugene or continuing his hidden agendas behind Pamela's back, he tries to deal with his trump card.

After Daryl gets left behind to fight off some soldiers from the Commonwealth, Carol continues to follow Lance towards a hidden secret that only a few are aware of. Finding themselves in a dark tunnel, Lance starts to question his rescuer on what is going to happen next and give a speech to potentially ignite change within the walls of the society he helped to build.

Despite ringing some truth about the potential outcome of Carol and her people's actions, his speech wasn't exactly used in the best location. With only a flashlight to guide them in the dark, Josh Hamilton's performance in one of his last dramatic performances in the episode is one that deserved a better location for more visibility to appreciate.

It also doesn't help that his speech is filled with information that other characters throughout the same season have expressed which makes it feel repetitious and unwarranted. There was a reason Carol shrugged it off and that was because she and everyone else has heard it all before.
