The Walking Dead Season 11 Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs From "What's Been Lost"

8. Down - Lance's Last Speech

Since his introduction earlier in the eleventh season, Lance has managed to talk a big game to get what he wanted. Whether that was manipulating Eugene or continuing his hidden agendas behind Pamela's back, he tries to deal with his trump card.

After Daryl gets left behind to fight off some soldiers from the Commonwealth, Carol continues to follow Lance towards a hidden secret that only a few are aware of. Finding themselves in a dark tunnel, Lance starts to question his rescuer on what is going to happen next and give a speech to potentially ignite change within the walls of the society he helped to build.

Despite ringing some truth about the potential outcome of Carol and her people's actions, his speech wasn't exactly used in the best location. With only a flashlight to guide them in the dark, Josh Hamilton's performance in one of his last dramatic performances in the episode is one that deserved a better location for more visibility to appreciate.

It also doesn't help that his speech is filled with information that other characters throughout the same season have expressed which makes it feel repetitious and unwarranted. There was a reason Carol shrugged it off and that was because she and everyone else has heard it all before.
