The Walking Dead Season 7: 3 Things 'Sing Me A Song' Got Right (And 4 It Got Wrong)

1. It's Still Way Too Long

Why does the show keep on doing these extended episodes? Aside from the obvious answer - money - there's no real reason for this to run to an hour in length (that's excluding commercials).

You can see why there might be a particular storytelling need when it's an 'event' episode, like a premiere or finale. Just for these regular season instalments, though, there's no apparent reason to go beyond the usual 40+ minute runtime. It just makes the episodes feel more and more like filler, and more of a chore to get through.

Moving some of the subplots here to other episodes (which could've used them), and trimming it down, and you'd be looking at a tighter episode, and probably a tighter, stronger season overall. Instead, it's another episode that - while not bad - still feels like it badly needs cutting down.
