Gregory was a plot-thread left hanging last year, as he seemingly went off to the Sanctuary to sell his soul to Simon and the Saviours.

The leader of the Hilltop (if he can still be called that) has seemed destined for death since the moment he was introduce; a bitter, craven person not cut out for his role and unprepared to take on the enemy. Now that he's looking to cross over, or at least strike a deal, it means he'll lose Rick and co, while Negan won't trust him either, so he's a goner either way.
