The Walking Dead Season 9: 10 Big Questions We Need Answers To
6. Will Henry Become The Show's New Carl Figure?
Jesus' death came as a blow to fans of the source material which, in a sense, makes the martial artist's demise similar to that of Carl's. As Rick's son, Carl was considered to be of paramount importance to the future of the series. Many viewers thought that he would take over from Rick after the former sheriff departed the show. Killing Carl off meant that this theory could never become a reality.
Since the young boy's death, some viewers believed that Judith's increased role on the series was a dead cert that the writers were lining her up for some pretty big storylines - storylines that would've been reserved for Carl had he stuck around. However, Evolution seems to suggest that Kingdom-dweller Henry might be the character to receive Carl's story material.
The young and feisty kid is still troublesome, but he's starting to understand the horrors of the world in which they all live. He received quite a bit of screen-time during the fall finale, despite not having a major storyline (well, not in comparison to other characters anyway) which certainly seems to suggest that the writers are intent on making him a main character.
Even more than that, however, is the fact that Henry left his home to go to The Kingdom - something which Carl does in the comic books at the beginning of The Whisperers' arc, which does imply that Henry is going to become the Carl of The Walking Dead's new era.
