Of the two major male additions to the show this season, it was the one of Vince Vaughn that really got people talking. Thats mostly because hes an actor with an increasingly poor resume, and one who even when he was good was in comedies, a far cry from his role in True Detective. While theres still optimism he can pull it off, no such concerns seem to exist for Colin Farrell. Hes an actor with proven pedigree, showing he can play a range of roles and winning a Golden Globe for In Bruges. Hes got a rather antihero-sounding role here, playing Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Farrells talent should really shine through in what promises to be a fairly meaty role as a morally ambiguous character, and theres the added plus of the fantastic tache he is sporting.
