Scouring the vast amount of wrestlers available, you finally settle on Hollywood Hogan, leader of the nWo Black & White. A short full motion video plays, showing Hogan making his way down to the ring, before a similar video is shown for your opponent, Kevin Nash. 'This is what it's all about', your 1998 gaming brain tells you, as you prepare to put on a match (hopefully) better than the infamous 'Fingerpoke Of Doom' farce between the pair. WCW Thunder, released only for Playstation in late-1998, is remarkably similar to the game which preceded it, Nitro. The controls are the same, the wrestler sprites are largely exact replicas, and even the cheat codes are the same! That said, there are notable improvements, such as cage matches and the chance to realign some of your favourites to one of five stables, WCW, Raven's Flock, The Four Horsemen, nWo Black & White, and nWo Wolfpac. The latter addition is largely meaningless, but it at least marks some form of customisation. This would be the last WCW game produced solely by Inland Productions and THQ, and it was clear that some fresh blood was needed, certainly on the Playstation. PS owners were getting a rough deal generally as WCW fans.
