Definitely one of the weirdest set of circumstances ever in North American wrestling, a match between Mike Awesome and Taz for the ECW World Title had a lot of controversy surrounding it. As mentioned in a previous entry, Awesome had started working for WCW whilst still under contract to ECW. In fact, the man was still the reigning ECW Champion! WCW had been warned off letting their new star appear on television with the title, one that belonged to another company, so a scenario was created which would allow Awesome to drop the belt at an ECW show. Crazily, Mike Awesome would drop the strap to Taz, who was by then under contract to the WWF.What this meant was incredible - the ECW Title was defended by a new WCW star, who lost out to a current WWF performer. It didn't do a lot for ECW, to tell the truth, the match itself only lasted a few minutes before Awesome tapped out and Taz was handed the belt.
