OK, so it's weird to look back on what was borderline date-rape and kidnapping now, but Triple H's antics were par for the course in 1999. When he interrupted Stephanie McMahon's wedding with Test and revealed he'd already bagged the bride, there were shocked faces all round.
Forget what happened next in the story, because this was drama that lived for the moment.
Stephanie's tears, Vince McMahon's rage and a degenerate's satisfaction at pulling a fast one on everybody made the angle work. This, as was the norm back then, had daytime soap-opera elements aplenty, didn't pull any punches when it came to controversy and slyly phased Test out of a top-line role he wasn't exactly ready for.
As Raw went off the air, viewers were left wondering what this meant for Stephanie and Test. There were also promises that Vince would stand up to Trips and defend his daughter's honour.
