Jack Swagger and Cesaro were put together under the watchful eye of Zeb Colter, portrayed by the legendary Dutch Mantel. Colter's character was that of an all-American patriot who despised illegal immigrants and even drew mainstream attention for his portrayal of a right-wing stereotype.

Colter acquired the talents of Swagger, whose gimmick at the time was also a patriot, and Cesaro, who was playing an America-loving legal immigrant. The team of "The Real Americans" (including the 51st State of Switzerland) started performing together in the summer of 2014 at a time when tag team wrestling was even more neglected than it is now. For context, six months after The Real Americans debuted, the tag team championships were won by The New Age Outlaws. Yes, THOSE New Age Outlaws.

Swagger and Cesaro's combination of power, technical prowess, and fluid tandem offence got a lot of fans re-interested in tag team wrestling and their rather unusual gimmick of patriotic heels was something fans had never seen before.

They may never have been tag champs and they may have split up after less than a year, but this is still a team that many fans have admiration for.
