10 Big Concerns Heading Into WWE Royal Rumble 2021

Goldberg: WWE Champion, and other horrible Royal Rumble 2021 concerns...

We are just days away from the Royal Rumble.

The 34th-annual event of its kind, the Rumble is usually considered the beginning of a new era for WWE as it allows the world's biggest promotion to kick off a series of storylines on the road to WrestleMania - and none more important than the one revolving around the winner(s) of the eponymous match(es).

However, the 30-man and 30-woman Royal Rumble matches will be joined on the card by at least two major World Title bouts as Drew McIntyre goes toe-to-toe with the legendary Goldberg for the Raw's Universal Championship and Roman Reigns defends SmackDown's WWE Championship against long-time rival Kevin Owens.

With two potentially game-changing contests, the Royal Rumble could kick off an exciting new era for WWE - something the company (Raw in particular) is in dire need of right now - or it could very well result in a night that highlights the company's knack for giving us more of the same.

On a night destined to produce a ton of surprises, we could be in for some pleasant ones too. And yet, it's still hard to shake some concerns...

10. Asuka Could Fade Into Obscurity Again

One of these days, your writer won't feel the need to harp on about how WWE continues to mistreat Asuka. Today is not that day.

You would think putting the Raw Women's Championship on the 'Empress of Tomorrow' would be a good thing for her but it seems that the creative team have resigned themselves to the fact that making her the champion is enough to make up for the near-three years of misdirection they inflicted on her after her incredible undefeated streak came to an end. Spoiler alert: It's not.

The very same could be said for the Women's Tag Team Championship. Let's not forget that she was dragged into this program in a storyline that is inexplicably no longer in existence and now she is once again playing a supporting role.

After being a punching bag for Alexa Bliss' gimmicky Fiend-inspired transformation (for no good reason), Asuka needs a comeback but the lack of a Raw Women's Championship match on the card yet again just shows how much WWE actually cares about making one of their best talents shine. Sure, she may be on the card in the Women's Tag Title match but, again, it's supporting role.
