"I always love the concept of The Jericho Vortex and how anybody that works with me gets dragged down. Name one. Name one person that got dragged down from working with me. Maybe afterwards they didn't go higher, but that's not up to me. I'm not in charge of booking the entire company. All I can do is influence the storylines that I work on."

And he sure does influence the storylines that he works on!

The story - which stems from a Dave Meltzer report, so take that how you choose - is that Jericho supposedly sighted a then-24-year-old Action Andretti when the brash youngster was flown in for a spot of enhancement work for AEW, declaring instantly that he wanted to make a star out of him. Cue the clean loss to this nobody, cue the Action Andretti is All Elite graphic being thrown together, and cue the end of Action Andretti's career.

Why didn't he thrive after: because a win against Chris Jericho hasn't meant anything since 2020. In 2022, defeating Jericho didn't mean anything more than defeating Brandon Cutler.

Throughout AEW's 2023 season, Chris Jericho worked featured PPV matches - see: stinkers - vs. Adam Cole and Ricky Starks, wrestled hometown lad Will Ospreay when AEW stormed into Wembley, and formed a dubious alliance with an obviously bored Kenny Omega.

Action Andretti, meanwhile? He struggled - and still does - to make the Buy-In. The ripoff Road Warrior-esque shoulderpads he and Lio Rush adorn are about the only interesting thing left about him.
