WrestleCrap favourite The Black Scorpion was created by WCW to be the arch nemesis of Sting. There was just one problem, they couldnt decide who was going to play the character. Originally, Stings former tag partner Jim Hellwig AKA The Ultimate Warrior was to have played The Black Scorpion, but WCW was unable to hire him at the time. So, without an arch nemesis, Sting was forced to face off against The Black Scorpions Messengers week after week for about four months in 1990. Looking a little like Kendo Nagasaki if hed joined the IRA, The Black Scorpions henchmen varied greatly in size, shape, moveset and ethnicity, but all of them, without exception, were completely unable to give Sting any grief whatsoever once the match bell had been rung. Apparently, The Black Scorpion himself was also capable of mind control and eventually he possessed a small army of WCW employees, effectively making them Messengers as well... At one time or another during those four, ludicrously stupid months, almost every undercard guy contracted to WCW donned a pair of black tights and a ski mask in order to have a pop at Sting. The Stinger mercilessly squashed each and every one of them without hesitation. Even during the final matchup between Sting and the (actual) Black Scorpion - who was played by Ric Flair, amazingly The Messengers proved woefully ineffectual against their adversary. When all is said and done, The Black Scorpion angle has to go down as one of the most botched storylines in wrestling history, whilst his army of followers will be remembered as probably the crappiest stable ever devised.
