Going into Survivor Series 1998, the title was vaccated after Austin was pinned by The Undertaker and Kane at the same time so a tournament was created. While this was happening, Mankind was seemingly being groomed to be the next corporate champion, almost acting like a son to Vince. This is what we have to setup the tournament at Survivor Series 1998.

In round one, Mankind beat Gillberg in 30 seconds. Steve Austin won by DQ because Boss Man attacked him with a nightstick. X-Pac and William Regal fought to a double count out, giving Austin a bye. Triple H was supposed to face off against The Rock but he didn’t come out so the corporations Big Boss Man came out and The Rock beat him in 4 seconds.

On to the quarterfinals, Undertaker beat Kane. Mankind beat Al Snow. The Rock beat corporation member Ken Shamrock after Rock intercepted Boss Man's nightstick and hit Shamrock with it while the ref was down.

The Semi Finals had Mankind beating Austin after getting screwed by the McMahon’s. Kane interfered in the Undertaker vs Rock match, Chokeslaming Rock so Rock won by DQ, setting up Rock vs Mankind. At the end of the match Rock put Mankind in the Sharpshooter and Vince called for the bell and The Rock had won the championship.

This PPV is a masterpiece because everything in this perfectly describes The Rock being the corporate champion. Everything was done SO Rock would win. It was Vince’s plan all along which set Rock up to be the mega star that he is today.

Rock is now one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and is an 8 time WWE Champion and a 2 time WCW Heavyweight Champion.
