The course of WWE history has changed numerous times, thanks in large part to opportunists looking for that one opening they could take advantage of in order to cement themselves as top stars in a ruthless industry.

The annual Money in the Bank Ladder match has made it much easier for superstars to seize chances, but WWE history is rife with talent who have gotten their foot into the main event door through means and manners that can only be described as opportunistic.

Whether they were pulling political strings far away from the cameras or handing over a briefcase that would ensure them a championship run, these ten wrestlers have earned their reputations, staked their legacies, and built their potential Hall of Fame careers on jumping at the chance to become immortal.

10. Jack Swagger

WrestleMania XXVI saw Jack Swagger win Money in the Bank in a major upset. A continuous loser in the weeks leading up to the match, he overcame stars such as Mark Henry and Christian to emerge victorious as the possessor of a guaranteed world title match.

He waited only two days, watching from a distance as Edge flattened world heavyweight champion Chris Jericho with a spear. Then, when the time was right, he rushed to the ring and cashed in. He lifted the future Hall of Famer off the mat, executed a big gut-wrench powerbomb, and became one of the youngest wrestlers to ever hold a top title in Vince McMahon's promotion.

Swagger was an opportunist who capitalized on an opening and etched his name in the history books alongside the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, and Shawn Michaels.

Of course, his title reign was muddled by poor booking and a desire by WWE creative to focus on ageing stars such as Rey Mysterio, Big Show, and Kane, but there's no question Swagger marked himself out as one the great opportunists.
