2. Promote A Tag Team Main Event

Tag team wrestling is the best wrestling when tag team wrestling is at its best.

The genre literally multiplies the drama and exhilaration of pro wrestling, and enriches the last-gasp tropes where singles matches can sometimes dilute them. The constant near-falls sometimes inspire disbelief, or even scorn, if the guy kicking out is already perceived as over-powered. In tag matches, the save device, when timed perfectly, gets the audience biting. The relentless drama of great tag wrestling is such that it marked the genesis of the proto-"Fight forever" chant. The immortal Dragon Gate showcase, at ROH Supercard of Honor II, was so electric that fans chanted "Please don't stop". The actual idea of the match ending was agonising; that's how awesome it was.

The format gets babyfaces over in an era where it's never been harder. The format, considered for too long by WWE and NJPW as a complement to the card, is the best. AEW, directed in no small part by the Young Bucks, recognises this.

They want to differentiate themselves from WWE; this is the best possible counter to it.
